Captains’ Newsletter – 6th May 2020

We hope that you are keeping safe and well and have been enjoying the recent sunshine.

We have been working hard on our start up plan to resume playing golf in line with Government easing of restrictions under COVID-19. As you will all be aware this resumption will be a measured and phased process.

The GUI and ILGU are currently working on regulations on the resumption of golf which will emphasise the absolute necessity of golf clubs adhering to the terms of the protocol for safe play. On Monday 18th May those Members who live within a 5km radius of the Club – this is Phase 1 of the Government easing of restrictions – will be able to play golf. Full details of how we at Delgany will be implementing safe golf in Phase 1 will be sent to you as soon as we receive them from the GUI/ILGU, well in advance of 18th May.

Thank you to all those Members who continue to pay their subscriptions by Direct Debit. The Club depends upon this ongoing income to meet our obligations.

Our dedicated and loyal staff has supported us in the smooth running of the Club during this lockdown period. From the photographs sent to you recently you can see that our Course is in excellent condition. The Clubhouse has been spring cleaned and Gavin has upgraded his Pro Shop.

Under Covid-19 restrictions sadly we have not been able to say a proper farewell to friends and family who have passed away. So perhaps we could all take a moment to remember the following esteemed Members & Friends who we have lost recently.

Pauline Littlefield, Member & wife of former Captain John
Eunice O’Neill, former Member & wife of Pat
Zanka MacHugh, Member and wife of Derek

Former Member Michael Malone
Former Member Tony O’Reilly
Aidan Moran, husband of Member Angela O’Donoghue
John O’Leary, former Member & Ryder Cup Player

We would like to extend our sincere condolences to the families. May they rest in peace.

Keep safe and well.
Yours in golf

Martin and Diane
