And there goes Easter!!!!
We hope that you had a wonderful Easter break with your families! All that lies between here and July are small matters of Junior Cert, Leaving Cert and College exams, ends of terms and, for some, the traditions and formalities that might accompany key transitions in your young people’s school lives. Whatever lies ahead, we wish you the very best of everything!
We have had a fairly busy time recently on your behalf! On Thursday 21st we welcomed over 50 new members from 2020, 2021 and 2022 to the clubhouse for our first New Members Night since 2019. Captain Ann writes elsewhere in this edition on this event, but suffice to say here that we both were so pleased with the turn-out and especially the ‘buzz’ created by those present. Thank you to all involved – staff and volunteer speakers – but especially to Operations Director Mark who did so much to engage with new members in the lead-up to the event.
One of the great privileges of Captaincy is to invite the Captains of neighbouring clubs for Visiting Captains Day, to participate in a not-too-serious competition and to dine together afterwards in convivial surroundings. Last Friday, DGC kicked off the Visiting Captains season in style, as we have done for many years now. We set the tone for the season and create a band of brothers and sis- ters that bonds across the year and often lasts well beyond our Captaincies. The course was in fine fettle – thank you, Dave and colleagues – and looked so well in the lovely sunshine. The post hollow-cored greens just added that extra challenge, but 90 points were still required in the Rumble to win! Our meal, courtesy of Shane and his staff, was top-class and the restaurant beauti- fully presented by Kevin and Kasia on the day. Delgany be proud!
Sadly that day, our great neighbours Greystones GC lost their beloved Captain, Danny Hatton R.I.P. after prolonged illness. We were privileged to lower our flag as a mark of respect and the company of Captains took a moment to reflect and remember. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and golfing colleagues at this difficult time.
‘Qualifying’ season and inter-club competition is now well underway and we wish everyone a fruitful and successful time ahead.
Happy golfing….and mind yourselves (Covid has ways of catching us out still!) Captains Pat and Ann.
