To all those who competed for my Captain’s Prizes over the past 2 weeks – and those who were not able to do so – I want to say a heartfelt ‘thank you’ for your great support and good wishes.
Everything a Captain prays for on such an occasion came to pass – fabulous weather, a course in pristine condition, a great array of prizes, a vibrant (and sometimes raucous!) Captain’s Dinner and, of course, great competition with worthy winners in Michael Bryan (2nd time winner of the main prize), Sean Kinsella (Intermediates) and Tom Smith (5-Day).
I have so many people to thank for their contributions and will get to do so personally in time, but I must mention in particular Mark & Briege in the office, Dave and the course team, Jamie & Kevin and the bar staff, Tony, James (and helper Tom Horan) & the entire kitchen staff, Gavin and his team and Eamon B (who solves problems for the fun of it!) and, of course, John and his intrepid Competitions team. Small things make a huge difference and I’m especially grateful to those who helped with the ‘goody bags’, the copious water bottles on Qualifying weekend, the dinner table flower arrangements and Phil O’Neill and his troubadours.
