Upcoming Social Events

‘’The Vice Captains’ have prepared an exciting calendar of events for 2025. These will be communicated well in advance and include later in the year, for example, a visit by the Dublin Welsh Male Voice Choir and an innovative new Christmas concert & party.

The following events are scheduled for the period to the end of March 2025. Book early to avoid disappointment.

January 24th – Jamie Night. The singing doorman from Brown Thomas, Sean Boland, is one of Ireland’s most sought-after solo vocalists in his genre, he has countless appearances on national radio and TV to his credit. Combining a selection of the Rat Pack, Jazz favourites and 70s/80s/90s classics, Sean creates a perfectly unintrusive performance every time. You will be singing and dancing (if you want to!)

February 12th to 22nd – Widows Paradise. Our drama group is hosting this play with pre-event early bird dining. Running Weds to Sat for two weeks: in the weeks of Weds 12th to 15th and 19th to 22nd. Play tickets from Cheryl Ball and dinner bookings at the bar.

March 7th – Sir Ernest Shackleton. The incredible journeys told by acknowledged expert, John O’Reilly, through slides, video, and stories. Our own distinguished member, Brendan O’Brien, is a grandson of Tom Crean, who journeyed with Shackleton. The Shackleton Exhibition tells the story of the “Endurance” expedition of 1914-1917. Shackleton attempted to be the first to cross the Antarctic Continent on foot. Unfortunately, his expedition ran into difficulties and the Endurance sank. The expedition then became a matter of survival and is regarded by many as the most amazing rescue in maritime history.

March 16th – St Patricks Sunday celebration lunch. Sunday lunch followed by fantastic Irish Dancing from the Claire Dowling School of Dance in Bray. Ideal for the whole family from age 1 to 99. Some musicians from Bray’s junior Ceoltas Ceoltóirí group will attend. Some members may remember the centenary dancing exhibition we held in 2008….expect the same talent again. Finally, we all get the chance, (including the children), to dance with the dancers. Tickets are limited and will in huge demand, so please book early. There might even be a surprise parade.

March 28th – Team Table Quiz . Test your knowledge with host Ian Barrett. He promises no Coronation Street or Fair City questions. Teams of 4. Start planning your team now.

Paul Farrar & Bairbre Smith – Vice Captains.
